About
A dark pop world
'Karmen Hira' is the stage name of the French-Polish artist, singer and composer Karolina Popczyk. Immersed from childhood in the traditional music of Eastern Europe and with musical influences ranging from Agnes Obel and Jóhann Jóhannsson, to Chelsea Wolfe and M83. Karmen takes us into a dark art pop world, with songs that morph between new wave, indie and experimental music. The voice is accompanied by piano and harmonium playing, and in concert she surrounds herself with cello player Thomas Laduguie. Singing in English, the powerful voice of Karmen soars over the instrumental accompaniment, allowing us to contemplate the intensity and rawness of her lyric writing...
The first Ep from Karmen Hira is appropriately titled 'Raw'. A moving tribute to childhood, her past and her ancestors. Produced in collaboration with producer Florent Soler. Both of which are perfectly surprising and definitely mystical. 'Raw' is available on all major streaming platforms.
A truly European affair, in a normal year the Karmen Hira collaboration divides its time between bases in Toulouse, Paris, Berlin and Warsaw.
